This guide will walk you step-by-step on how to add fonts on an iPad using the iFont app. If you’re a student who loves taking notes digitally or someone who’s simply into digital planning, knowing how to access and download fonts can level up your game of writing on an iPad.

So let’s cut it short and start with the straightforward process of installing fonts on an iPad using the iFont application.

Downloading the iFont app

Download the ifont app from the app store

The first obvious step that you want to perform is to download the iFont application from your app store. If you’re not familiar with this app, it’s a font management tool that lets you install fonts from popular websites like Google Fonts, DaFont, and more.

Note: It is important to note that some fonts may be free for personal use, but require a commercial license for commercial purposes if you download them from sites apart from the Google Fonts.

If personal use is all you care about, you can download fonts from any website infused in the iFont app. However, if you’re looking to use fonts for free in commercial projects, it’s best to stick with Google Fonts. They are released under open-source licenses, meaning you can use them without worrying about copyright or licensing issues.

Downloading Fonts From The iFont App

The next step is downloading fonts from the iFont app.

  1. To download the fonts, go to the Google fonts section from the menu on the left pane.
  2. You can sort trending or popular fonts by using the trending or popularity tag from the sorting option on the right pane. Or if you are looking for a specific font, you can directly search for it using the search bar on the top right.
  3. Once you have selected the font you want to download, click the ‘Get’ button to start the import process. Then, head over to the ‘Imported Fonts’ section to view the font family you just added.

4. From here, click on the install button and then tap on continue.

5. Now, allow the pop-up that is attempting to download the configuration file for that specific font onto your iPad.

By this point, you have downloaded the font’s configuration profile onto your iPad. Now you only need to set it up from the settings on your iPad.

Installing The Downloaded Font On iPad

To finally install the font on your device, navigate to the settings on your iPad. Then:

  1. Navigate to the “VPN and Device Management” section in the “General settings on your iPad. Or the “Profile Downloaded” section on the left pane. I’ll choose the first option.
  2. Here, you’ll see your downloaded font just underneath this downloaded profile section. Tap on it and click on the “Install” button.

3. Enter your passcode and click install once again to add the font’s profile.

5. Once the font is installed, a ‘Profile Installed’ pop-up will appear, confirming that the font has been successfully added to your iPad.

And that’s how you successfully add fonts to an iPad. To check if the newly added fonts are working properly, follow the next few steps.

Using The Installed Font

I will use a digital planner from my shop on the Goodnotes app to test and use the newly installed font. Now follow the next steps:

  1. First, import your planner into the Goodnotes app.
  2. Next, select the text tool and search for the font you just installed.
  3. Once you locate it, tap on it to start writing in that font right away. You can also set it as the default by clicking the “Set Default” option.

And that’s it! This is how you can download and start using fonts on your iPad in just a few steps. If you have any questions, you’re welcome to post them up in the comments section.
